Using VSAT satellite technology transmitting and receiving Voice, Video and Data at High Speed is possible over a larger landmass, not limited to geographic regions. Using sky based satellites that link back to earth hub stations or site-to-site links, linking disparate sites together, including the option of fast direct connectivity to the Internet backbone via earth teleport stations. Over the last few years VSAT and especially BBI systems have typically been used to facilitate very fast Internet access to remote communities, or to places where terrestrial communications are not present. The components of a Broadband Satellite site consist of a parabolic-shaped antenna mounted on the roof of a building, connected by a cable to a chassis inside the building. Dishes are installed at customer sites and then transmission capacity on satellites is arranged. Networks and infrastructure that are based on Satellite technology provide efficient, cost-effective methods for distributing data through a multiple site organization, whilst maintaining the same level of performance at each site. Satellite based data communication systems are easily managed from a single point, compared to their terrestrial counterparts with their multiple communication lines and vendor equipment.Broadband satellite technology is not new. It has been used mainly for business purposes, and there are about 500,000 terminals installed in 120 countries, most of them being developing countries.
